Artist Bio: Chris Beck
I grew up in the woods of North Idaho imagining all kinds of wonderful adventures that awaited me at the edges of the wilderness. Inspired by artists the likes of Frank Frazetta, Boris Vallejo, and Mark Schultz, I always knew creating artwork was going to be a part of my life, and I hoped that I could touch on the same kind of spark that those artists seemed to harness.
My comic illustration interests started with a 2 page spread every month in the high school news paper and took me to the Minneapolis College of Art and Design where I graduated with a degree in Comic Illustration in 2005. Ever since I have been working as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator working on client spec. projects, and for various marketing company teams.
Sea Dogs of Mars (SDofM) is the culmination of my passion for sequential story telling, my love of science fiction, and my dreams of exploring the distant wildernesses of other planets like Mars. The first incarnation of SDofM was as a Zuda Comics (now defunct DC Comics digital imprint) entry into their monthly contest in January of 2009. It never got the chance to set sail, until now. My artwork is new and improved, my energies reinvested, but the goal is the same; deliver to the true pulp science fiction fans a swashbuckling adventure worthy of the genre.
I give you Sea Dogs of Mars.
